Lymph can accumulate in all areas of the body following the removal of lymph nodes or damage to lymph vessels. Typically caused by burns, radiotherapy, surgery, vascular disease and obesity.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a recommended treatment for acute and chronic lymphoedema and post liposuction surgery.
MLD is a specialist form of relaxing hands-on massage used to aid lymph drainage. Breathing exercises are performed at the beginning and end of the session and gentle mobilisation exercises are carried out throughout the treatment. The result is a reduction in swelling, relief of pain and an increase in the range of movement of the affected area.
An initial consultation will take approximately ninety minutes. This allows for a full case history to be taken and measurements of the affected area. Subsequent sessions last for sixty minutes.
